It’s your last birthday before you officially become an adult, you better hold tight for this one.

For 17 years we’ve done this now, together.  You’ve been a part of our world, our world that began when we were 20 and 21, well even before that if you count the fact that we dated during high school.  Who would have thought at 21 and 22 we would welcome our first little boy into this world.

As I carried you for nine months, give me a moment while I reminisce a bit, I imagined, even dreamed about what you would look like.  When you were born you looked exactly the way I expected.  Funny though when you dream about your babies before they are born, you don’t usually imagine what they will look like as teenagers or adults, only kids.

I expect that’s because you simply aren’t able to think that far ahead.  Your mind isn’t ready to go to that place.  It’s taken a while, if we’re honest, to get to that place.  Because apparently parents grow with kids, we’re just all learning all the time, growing and finding our place and readjusting the longer we travel this road, together.

But, as you embark on this last curve on the road to adulthood, we’re feeling okay about this whole thing.  You’re a smart guy, you care about people, you want to do good in the world, you have plans for the future and you know what it’s going to take to achieve them, most importantly you know that God’s in control and you know that following Him will always lead you on the right path.

So we’re going to keep doing this together, figuring it out as we go, praying about it the whole way.  Son we are proud of you, for what you have become and where you are headed.  That little bald, blue eyed baby has become a young man that we are honored to parent.  We love you, happy birthday!

Dad and Mom

Last year about this time was quite exciting.  I woke very early in the morning to my water breaking, knowing that your daddy was in the air, flying home from California.  We drove to the airport to get him later that morning and tried to have a somewhat normal day as we waited for labor to start.  We like to keep things exciting.

We first got to see your beautiful face just before midnight that night.

You started to suck your fingers right after birth and it was adorable.

You came peacefully, beautifully, into this world, even a little early.

You’re just what we needed.

You’ve been such a blessing this past year sweet Fiona.  You’re my little attachment, and I’m not mad about it, there’s nothing I’d rather be doing.

From the beautiful eyes to that sweet little smile, you are such a gem.  I just love your little personality, such a sweet baby girl, I say it all the time.

I just thank God for choosing us baby girl, I can’t imagine life without you!  I can’t wait to see all that you learn this upcoming year.

Happy Birthday Sweet Fiona, number 7 in line, but loved more than you could possibly know by every one of us!

You’ve been waiting for this day and it’s finally here.  I’m pretty sure of all the kids you look forward to your birthday more than anyone.  So I can’t wait to hear your happy giggle this morning now that your day is finally here.

You’re still such a happy guy and man, I hope you stay that way.  You’re cute little smile, although you’ve been losing teeth like crazy this year, always puts a smile on my face.

You’re still loving Legos and Nerf guns this year, and of course your baby sister, you think she is a real gem too!  I love to see you carry her around because she’s quite a handful for you but you hang on tight, I know that you will always protect her.

So let’s celebrate all day today Bubba, it’s your day!  We can even have chicken chili if you’d like.  And remember, as always, we’re praying for you and can’t wait to see the big things you do in the future!

Sugar and Spice

Today you’re turning five, our sweet little Liddiebug!

You’re one opinionated little girl who knows what she likes.  You’re doing fantastic in school this year learning your alphabet and working on writing like a champ.

Daily, I get your little letters and drawings, and you always deliver unexpected hugs that make us smile.  You’re way more sensitive than you let on, but that’s okay because you get that from your mama.  You’re my little helper for sure, always willing to lend a hand with your sister, or help me cook or clean.

You’re a little bit spicy, I can appreciate that, although we are trying to learn restraint also.  Overall you’re just the cutest little sugar and spice around.  We can’t wait to see where He will put you in this great big world!  May He continue to guide us as we parent you, our sweet little firecracker.

Let me introduce you to my dear friend Katie.  She’s 38, lives in Central NC, has never been married and has no children.  She loves Jesus and has been praying for her husband for a while now.  She would love to start a family someday.  She enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews and my kids think she’s the best adult ever.  Katie truly has the biggest heart of anyone I have ever met.  Quality time is her love language, and she goes out of her way to make everyone around her feel loved all the time.  Her favorite is being outdoors, doing pretty much anything, and she’s always ready to try something new.  She’s looking for a man that loves the Lord most of all, also one that is ready to take the lead in a relationship, and of course, he needs to have a sense of humor because she certainly does.  It would also be a plus if he loved coffee and Chick-fil-A, but that’s certainly not a deal breaker.  😉

If you’re interested in meeting Katie just send us an email and we’ll put you in contact with her.
